🛩️ Blameless Cultures, Escalations, Stop Coding, Team Morale, AI-made Tests, Slump Mode, Expert Power: TMW #399

It's conference week! Plus, leader/team pay disparity poll results

Helloooo, welcome to the week

As you receive this, I'll be in the air over Europe on my way to join the team for CTO Craft Con: Berlin - there'll be a big get-together at our Berlin Mixer event on the evening of the 23rd, then two days of brilliant talks, networking and more at the Spielfeld Digital Hub. Tickets for the main event are now sold out, but if you were lucky enough to secure your spot, come and find me, I'd love to say hello!

Last week we ran a quick poll about the disparity between technology leader salaries and those of their team members. Unsurprisingly, the largest cohort in the results were the highest paid in their teams, but that cohort only made up 45% of the total responses. Here's the full result:

Interestingly, 12% of all respondents, or nearly a fifth of those with team members being paid more than them, responded that it wasn't something they supported. That implies that the situation was imposed on them, but by whom? The CEO? Market conditions? But it also shows that they don't feel confident about asking for salary increases for themselves in line with those market conditions.

Interesting stuff. What do you think about these results?

That's it - see you this week if you're in Berlin, otherwise see you next Mon for our next issue!
